Informational Session: Teaching for Black Lives Study Groups

Monday, May 11, 2026

Jesse Hagopian, Teaching for Black Lives co-editor and Rethinking Schools editor, will facilitate a 45-minute informational session for educators interested in forming a Teaching for Black Lives study group in their school, district, or statewide. Participants will learn about the benefits and logistics from past and current study group leaders. There will be time to ask questions and meet other educators in small groups.

Each year the Zinn Education Project hosts Teaching for Black Lives study groups across the United States. Using the Rethinking Schools book Teaching for Black Lives, educators explore how to teach about racism, resistance, and joy in free, teacher-led professional learning communities.

Past participants have said,

I really loved the stories shared by prior study group leaders.

There’s a lot of support for these study groups, so I don’t have to know everything. It seems really doable.

I received motivation to engage and inspire my students to understand themselves and others in a world that is lying to them. Encourage them to take up space with the tools from the Zinn Education Project and involve other educators.

There are so many people at all levels already deeply engaged in this work! It’s exciting to learn from them and connect with others who are also interested in advancing social justice at all levels of education.
